    The Managing Director - Ministry Advancement will work to fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose:  To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost. 

     

    The Managing Director - Ministry Advancement serves The Navigators by providing leadership, strategic and tactical planning, personnel management and coaching to various fundraising positions within the Development department.  This position works to integrate the activities of programs for which they are responsible with all other activities within the Development department. 

     

    The Managing Director also coordinates with other Navigator leaders on the integration of these programs with programs outside Development.  This position also manages contracts/relationships and activities of outside vendors utilized in the programs for which they are responsible.

    Responsibilities

    Funding and Strategy

    • Responsible for the direction and coordination of the Navigators Major Gift Program. 
    • Oversee Major Gift Officers and their Major Donor portfolios
    • Oversee the Gift Planning team, providing direction to the staff and coordinating efforts to maximize fundraising efforts
    • Oversee all aspects of the national Mid-Level Donor Program. Directs the team manager regarding fundraising strategies and team staffing
    • Directly oversee and coordinate fundraising daily operations within functions assigned.
    • Insure coordination and integration of activities with areas of Development and Communication not under the Managing Directors supervision
    • Responsible for overseeing the Navigators Foundation Program.  Directly supervise the Foundation Director providing direction and assistance when necessary
    • Coordinate field staff regarding prospects and proposals
    • Coordinate donor research efforts between fundraising staff and the designated department researcher and software manager
    • Coordinate the administrative assistant responsible for department administrative support working with the Development Office Manager
    • Coordinate administrative needs with the Development Office Manager
    • Partner with the Managing Director of Donor Development and their team coordinating donor transitions from mail/phone acquisitions into mid-level prospects
    • Develop income and expense budgets for all programs and monitors their progress
    • Coordinate with both HQ and field staff concerning fundraising efforts and campaigns, training, improved communication, and updated business practices regarding donor care and recruitment
    • Responsible for planning and execution of Major Donor events, including President’s Gathering events

     

    Supervision and Leadership

    • Manage performance of direct reports, ensuring effectiveness of those on their teams
    • Set and adjust priorities for direct reports and their teams
    • Have regular one-to-one meetings with direct reports
    • Hire, train, and develop staff within areas of responsibility
    • Participate in the annual Plan and Progress Review process for self-evaluation and for evaluations on all direct reports
    • Approve and/or correct direct reports’ timesheets on a weekly basis in Workday Time Tracking
    • Approve monthly expense reports for all direct reports due by the 15th of each month

     

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Serves as a member of the Development and Communications Leadership Team
    • Provide direction regarding fundraising event planning when needed
    • Research development best practices and implements those applicable into The Navigators

    Qualifications

    • Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.
    • Minimum 4-year degree
    • 10 years fundraising experience
    • National non-profit and large organizational experience preferred
    • Proven track record of Major Donor development and management
    • Management of both headquarters and geographically diverse staff
    • Previous bottom line responsibility for fundraising goals
    • Strong record of success in achieving financial and donor development goals
