    The Gift Planning Support Specialist shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose:  To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.


    This position will serve in a professional fundraising environment with emphasis on estate gift confirmation and Gift Planning donor qualification and cultivation. The Gift Planning Support Specialist will strive to enhance Gift Planning donor relationships within a complex portfolio of highly valuable donors and constituents of Navigator ministry, thereby actively advancing growth for the Gift Planning program.


    Donor Relationships

    • Responsible for all follow-up strategies regarding Gift Planning leads that are generated via the phone, the website, field staff referrals, data prospecting, and other marketing ventures.
    • Confirm current estate gifts through phone calls and oversee/maintain the Nav Legacy Society mailing lists to ensure the Nav Legacy Society membership is accurate and up to date.
    • Manage all incoming calls on the Gift Planning number and provide direction to Gift Planning donors utilizing the Nav Legacy website and basic planning documents.
    • Manage various legacy communications with donors including gift acknowledgements for memorial gifts, IRA gifts, and bequests.


    Donation Strategy and Metrics

    • Develop a communication and stewardship plan for the Nav Legacy Society to enhance donor relationships using personal cards, newsletters, and fulfillment materials.
    • Work in coordination with the Gift Planning, Major Donor, and Mid-level teams to develop relationship building strategies with donors using direct and digital mail, setting up personal visits, meetings and arranging teleconferences for Gift Planning team members.
    • Generate Gift Planning proposals using legacy giving software for prospective legacy donors.
    • Monitor the established metrics to measure response rates, program awareness, and the success/effectiveness of the overall Gift Planning program.
    • Participate in planning strategies for Gift Planning representation at various conferences, seminars, and training events. These events may be those hosted by the Gift Planning team or other departments, missions, or organizations.


    Administrative Responsibilities

    • Oversee and maintain the Nav Legacy website, keeping it current with all Gift Planning marketing strategies, campaigns, and initiatives.
    • Act as the administrator for the Gift Planning budget, ensuring accuracy in all uses of department funds and participate in Gift Planning budget strategy development meetings.
    • Assist with team financial affairs and basic legacy gift settlement in cooperation with the Gift Planning team, including filing expense reports and paying supplier invoices.
    • Assist Gift Planning team members with travel arrangements
    • Manage the Planned Giving electronic databases and hard-copy file systems.
    • Grow and achieve competency regarding Gift Planning strategies, ethics, organizational practices, industry tools and resources through coaching/mentoring, conferences/webinars, and other resources.
    • Other job-related duties as assigned.


    • Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.
    • Minimum education – four-year college degree.
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong presentation and liaison skills.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to represent The Navigators in a positive and professional manner during both internal and external interactions.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite as well as other database and web-based fundraising tools.
    • Ability to analyze data and identify gift planning prospects.
    • Ability to work well independently while maintaining strong communication with coworkers and team members.
    • High level of integrity in dealing with confidential information.
    • Capacity to deal comfortably and sensitively with high-level donors.
    • Ability to forge strong working relationships with others and a capacity for engaging trust among colleagues and donors.
    • Past personal experience with The Navigator ministry is a plus.
