  • Overview

    The Grounds/Maintenance Helper shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose:  To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost. 


    This position assists the Grounds Supervisor with keeping Glen Eyrie physical grounds and associated property maintained. This includes but is not limited to maintaining all lawns, roads, sidewalks, retaining walls, trails, terrace areas, gardens.


    In addition to the above responsibilities this position will work with the Facilities Department and team as directed by the Grounds Supervisor providing support for general maintenance, repairs, remodels and general construction. Work may be performed at both Glen Eyrie and Eagle Lake properties.


    • Grounds helper will work in and help these areas only as directed:
      • Lawn maintenance
        • Trimming
        • Mowing
        • Aeration & fertilization
        • Overall lawn health and appearance
      • Trees
        • Trimming, planting, and removal
        • Health and maintenance with treatments and spraying
      • Sprinkler maintenance and schedules
        • Start up and shut down of the non-potable water systems
        • Making sure all circuits, valves, clocks and heads are functional
        • Establishing and maintaining efficient watering schedules
      • Run and maintain all lawn care equipment
      • Retaining wall maintenance
      • Public areas, road ways, and terraces free of weeds, grass and debris.
    • General Maintenance – As needed help support the facilities operations.
      • This includes but is not limited to buildings, grounds, and vehicle maintenance.
      • As needed work as directed to assist facilities staff with general help
      • Be on call and serve as Facilities On-Duty rotation - FOD
      • Serve as a member of the Flood Response Team – FRT
    • General Construction – Provide support for remodels and new construction projects if needed
      • This may include:
        • Shoveling, fence installation and repair, and concrete work. Use of various and power tools
      • May provide assistance as needed at either property, Glen Eyrie or Eagle Lake.
      • Use the maintenance tracking software, Maintenance Connection for assigned work.
        • Complete work as assigned then comment and close work orders daily




    • Office and computer related responsibilities
      • Login to the computer
        • Check and respond to e-mail daily
      • Maintain all equipment and tools used on the job
      • The vehicle assigned to this position is to be maintained and cleaned at least once a month.
      • Lead and work with volunteers in general maintenance and construction projects as related to grounds. Providing direction and leadership as needed for a variety of group sizes.
      • Responsible for the care and use of all personal hand and power tools assigned to them
      • Responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment associated with and used by grounds.
      • Skill and knowledge in these additional areas helpful:
        • Small engine use and repair
        • Zero turn mowers, push mowers, trimmers
        • Chain saws
        • Grounds maintenance as related to chemicals, fertilization, weed control


    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
    • Experience in all areas of grounds maintenance and related equipment with 0-1 year’s minimum experience required.
    • Some general construction and building maintenance experience is a preferred but not required.
    • People skills required; possess the ability to work well with others.
    • Good communication, organization and planning skills required.
    • Proficient with general computer skills and software applications. MS Word and Excel helpful.
    • Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.
