    The Associate Director of Finance and Accounting shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose:  To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost. 


    The Associate Director of Finance and Accounting provides financial leadership to the US Navigators from an accounting, cash management, and financial perspective and helps establish and ensure compliance of financial policies and regulatory bodies necessary to wisely steward God’s provisions.


    This position oversees income accounting, business and field ministries finance, internal consulting activities, treasury and grant functions of the ministry. This includes providing financial information that will assist in accomplishing the strategic initiatives of The Navigators.


    Financial Responsibilities

    • Oversee operation and reporting by LLCs that have legal affiliation with the organization
    • Oversee grant approval, payment and documentation and the foreign grant program to ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met
    • Oversee compliance with Office of Foreign Assets Control
    • Provide information for, coordinate and participate in, internal/external audits/consulting projects of overseas grant recipients
    • Approve expenditures over $10,000


    Accounting Responsibilities

    • Monitor a wide range of donor giving, external activities, indicators and risk through oversite of collecting, analyzing, and distributing of contributions received
    • Oversees the management of processing all donor gifts and proper receipting by third party partners
    • Coordinates with Development direct mail programs impacting the departments
    • Oversees the use of the donation systems and credit card systems and integrations into the general ledger system
    • Work in partnership with Development and Donor Services staff to ensure that donor and staff issues are resolved in a timely and professional manner
    • Oversees the accounting activities in analyzing and distributing internal financial information to all company functions and operations, accurately and timely, including monthly financial reporting, management reporting, and budget reports
    • Maintain and use appropriate financial and budget systems
    • Interact with and advise senior management on strategic financial issues including finance committee presentations semi-annually
    • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and that enhance the organization’s value
    • Oversees effective and efficient handling of operational cash flows
    • Respond to SVP of Finance and Admin and the Director of Finance and Accounting as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate CFO financial requirements


    Assessment and Advisory Services Responsibilities

    • Oversee the internal audit/consulting function to provide needed assurance and provide value adding services for the organization
    • Oversee the facilitation of the risk assessment process and further the awareness and value of the process
    • Prepare and report to the finance committee semi-annually


    Supervision and Leadership Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement strategic ways to ensure FST health as a team
    • Advance the cultural vision in FST
    • Complete annual Plan and Progress Reviews (PPR) with direct reports
    • Ensure direct reports are completing annual PPRs with their direct reports
    • Meet on a regular basis with direct reports and department teams
    • Review and approve direct reports expense reports, and time cards for hourly direct reports


    Additional Responsibilities

    • Maintain excellent relationships with peers and facilitate cross-functional relationships to reduce interdepartmental silos
    • Build relationships with other areas of the ministry to increase trust and foster healthy collaboration
    • Maintain excellent banking relationships
    • Ensure compliance with Financial and Treasury-related policies
    • In the absence of the Director of Finance & Accounting, assume responsibility of their responsibilities


    • Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, advanced degrees and CPA.
    • Ten or more years of experience in Treasury/Financial management/Accounting Field; Experience with a complex no-profit organization or business organization preferred
    • Provide expertise and leadership in complying with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and in various and diverse tax issues including MHA, Internal Revenue Code, related to business transactions/deductions, UBIT, sales/use tax, etc.
    • Experience in monthly and yearend financial reporting including audited financial statements
    • Experience in cash management and banking relationships
    • Experience in investment portfolio oversight
    • Experience in oversight/management of real estate
    • Excellent people skills that provide the ability to collaborate and communicate within a team and cross functionally with other teams.
    • Strong desire to improve processes and serve others.
    • Ability to draft/review various types of contracts
    • Skills in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel and Word
    • Willingness to network with financial professionals outside the organization
    • Willingness to continue personal and professional development
    • Workday experience a plus.
