    The Infrastructure Administrator shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose:  To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost. 


    This position will design, install, and administer company servers and networks to ensure optimal performance of the various business applications. This includes ensuring the availability of business applications, installing, configuring, implementing, documenting and developing procedures for ongoing management of the server and network environments. Where applicable, the Infrastructure Administrator will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the servers and networks.


    Strategy & Planning

    • Develop strategies for client/server implementations and architect the infrastructure required to support those strategies.
    • Design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.
    • Coordinate and participate in key process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment.
    • Implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure server security.
    • Implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for disaster recovery.
    • Collaborate with management to assess near-and long-term capacity needs.  Document the architecture, design, and configuration of implemented servers and networks.

    Acquisition & Deployment

    • Conduct research on server hardware, software, in support the organizational technology strategies.
    • Review installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.


    Operational Management

    • Act as the backup escalation point for Support Desk Technicians and primary escalation point for Infrastructure technicians.
    • Provide training to infrastructure technicians on organizational policies, procedures and standards.
    • At times, may be asked to field incoming requests to the Service Desk to ensure courteous, timely and effective resolution of end user issues.
    • At times, may be asked to perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications.
    • Create procedures for resolving repeated desktop troubles.
    • Serve as cornerstone for escalating server and network issues; provide timely response to customer escalations.
    • Define and perform server and network backups and recovery procedures.
    • Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.  
    • Provide web administration support by maintaining web server functions, such as assuring logging and metrics data are stable.
    • Monitor and provide performance statistics and reports for server and network components.
    • Create shell scripts as required.
    • Manage and support corporate security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
    • Manage and support enterprise directory services and supporting server infrastructure.
    • Manage and support the corporate server environment.
    • Manage and support the corporate networking environment.
    • Develop and maintain server and network documentation.
    • Perform asset management of servers, network and related software.
    • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
    • Perform server and network security audits.
    • Monitor server and network environments and provide performance and capacity statistics reports.
    • Develop and document procedures for maintaining and troubleshooting servers and networking components.
    • Conduct site surveys to determine optimal locations for wireless access points; ensure access point signals overlap, with minimal interference.
    • Install access points in designated locations; inspect connectivity and signal strength where required.
    • Install cable drops for access points, including Power over Ethernet connections as necessary.
    • Provide assistance for installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user mobile hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
    • Provide system administration for email, network, backup, storage, unix OS , windows OS, file and print servers, load balancing, monitoring, telephony, antivirus, VMWare, security, DNS, and active directory infrastructure services.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.
    • At least four years’ equivalent work experience in a senior technical analytical position responsible for managing server environments.
    • Advanced knowledge of windows, Linux, DNS, email, networking, load balancing, security and storage technologies.
    • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment.
    • Experience with installation, configuration, server operating systems, performance tuning and monitoring tools.
    • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, firewall management, and operating system configuration.
    • Working technical knowledge of scripting code using Perl, bash shell, and scripting tools.
    • Working knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN and NAS.
    • Working technical knowledge of Cisco network components and their respective operating systems.
    • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
    • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
    • Designed and deployed enterprise-class networks, including access points, servers, routers, hubs, switches, and other hardware.
